Social Security Claiming Options Have Been Dropped

Authored by: Jerry Rich
Date: October 30, 2015

The budget bill approved by Congress and signed by the President in November 2015 has eliminated the popular “claim-and-suspend” and “restricted application” that have been highlighted in many Social Security workshops in recent years. While those claiming strategies are no longer in effect, except for a six-month window, it remains important for each Social Security-eligible person to plan carefully for the best time to claim benefits as part of an overall financial plan.

FCMM will be offering an updated Social Security workshop luncheon at the beginning of the EFCA Theology Conference (complimentary lunch included), January 20, 2016, plus a Medicare workshop that evening.

The discontinuance of claiming options may make Social Security sign-up simpler but timing is still a significant element in developing one's Social Security strategy.
